Our recent ENT visit went extremely well- the doc put a scope down Jack's nose again (which he loved and was very fun, ha). Fortunately, Joe came along and he held him down for the most part (I made him do the dirty work- that way Jackson loves me more, heehee). Just kidding folks, Joe offered. :) Any-hoo, the doc said things looked extremely well, much better than anticipated. He was very excited to see a lot of improvement. His epiglottal edema had resolved (we are no longer giving him meds for that) and the vocal cord that hadn't had any movement was now improved and moving a little bit. We were hoping for this as we had been hearing Jackson make a lot of different sounds and his cries have been increasing in strength. He stated that we could possibly look at starting to come off of the thickeners within a month or so. This was much earlier than Occupational therapy had initially thought we would be able to do based on Jack's swelling and issues. I talked with the Occupational therapist, and she said she would consult with the ENT doc and Speech Pathology and decide what our next step should be. She is going to call or email me this week and discuss what they determine would be the best route to go. We may go in for another brief (extremely brief) radiology swallow study and see if Jackson aspirates the thin liquids now that his vocal cord is moving and can help protect him from that.
This is a HUGE praise and we are thrilled. We don't really know what this looks like or how soon we will start the process, but it is so exciting to know he is improving. Please pray that Jack would tolerate these changes well and not aspirate!
Other than that, he is doing well. He has been tilting his head a LOT more lately, and turning it to the right, so we're trying to be more diligent in working on that with him and stretching his neck. Even so, he is improving every day with his head control and typical baby things, so that is fun!

That is great news about your ENT appointment. I'm so glad to hear that. As far as the swallow test, since I know first hand about the thickener, I wish you all the luck to get him off of that. It is pretty scary when I watch Carson choke and wonder if his food and liquid have stopped and come back up or has it passed his vocal cords and now is en route to his lungs. I will be praying that they can get you in for that earlier than planned.
Please update me on your appointments at Children't. We have 10 appointments scheduled(including surgery, but not including the staying 2-3 days part) starting on 9/11-11/17. So if have anymore appointments, there's a great chance we will be there as well.

So glad to hear Jack is doing so well! We have been thinking of you guys and hoping that no news was good news as far as blogging goes. Keep up the good work Jack!
